International Exhibition: Japan

I am super excited about my first international exhibition opportunity. I was invited to show in an exchange exhibition in which American artists are represented in a group exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. Although I am unsure of the exact dates of the exhibit, I know that it will be in the month of February. To bad I can’t hop on a plane and head over to Tokyo to view it! I included an image of the piece that I have displayed in the exhibit. The title of the piece is “Transition” and is a Giclee Print. The image was made without a camera, but with the aid of a light sensitive device (a scanner). My students now I love to scan stuff! It’s so direct. Anyway, if anyone just happens to be in Tokyo during the time of the exhibit, stop by and check it out for me! A big thanks to those who invited me to exhibit!

Products Review

I wanted to display some of the products I provided for my clients last year. They include Proof Boxes to hold 4×6 prints, the Custom Designed Wedding Album, the Art Prints and Wedding Signs, and the Portrait Album. I am hoping that my clients for this year may get inspired by what they will be able to do with the products they are getting in their wedding services. Also, this year I am approaching the Art Prints a bit differently. This year, my goal is to make an art print for every wedding client that will be used as a “Wedding Sign” to be displayed at their wedding. I do it because I love to make them and it gives me a chance to give every client something unique to display at their wedding. There are many images in the slide show, so just sit back and relax or feel free to click through it.(Click on the image to play slide show)

They are all beautiful, but my favs are the mixed media on canvas! I know they have to be so fun to create! : )

:: Daniel & Caroline ::

Congratulations to Daniel and Caroline who have now been married for 3 months! Yes, I’m a bit behind on blogging. I really had a great time getting to know these few and just felt right at home with Caroline. She is just so much fun to be around and is one of those people that just makes you feel like you belong. They had a beautiful fall wedding and I just love fall weddings! Such great colors to photograph. They were married at Oakmont Baptist Church in Greenville, North Carolina and had their reception at Brooke Valley Country Club. I have also included image from her bridal portrait session. A big thanks to Daniel and Caroline for letting me be a part of their wedding!

I love, love, love her hair…not just the up-do, but the color too!

I broke out the film cameras. These next two are from my Pentax 67. I got to get into the darkoom to develop these negatives. Everytime I get in the darkroom I realize how much I love being there!

:: Matt & Paula ::

I am pleased to introduce you to Mr. & Mrs. Kornegay! Paula was one of the very first people I met when I moved to Greenville to go to grad school. She works with Global Impact ministries at Greenville Christian Fellowship which is the church that we attend here in Greenville. What I love about Paula is how genuine she is. I am so happy for her that she has entered this new stage of life. I was blessed to be able to share their wedding with them by photographing their big day. The bridesmaids’ makeup was done by Allison Dameron. Be sure to check her out at allisondameron.com. This first image was used as a wedding sign and was displayed during the day. I had a great time making it!

These are absolutely stunning, Julie! It seems like you captured Paula and Matt so, so well. What a lovely day! I was sad I couldn’t be there but I’m so happy to see these amazing photos! Thank you! :)

7th Photographic Image Biennial :: Keith Carter, Juror

East Carolina University School of Art and Design hosts an exhibition for image-based media every two years called the Photographic Image Biennial. They have always had really awesome jurors like Maggie Taylor and Jerry Uelsmann, just to name a few. This year’s juror was Keith Carter, who just happens to be one of my favorite photographers. What I love about so many of his photographs is the mystery behind how they were made. Many of them make you wonder how he ever got in such a situation to capture what he captured. Then there is his series titled “Talbot’s Shadows”, which I also admire. It is amazing that he can take these ordinary, every day objects and compose them quite simply in such a way that they can hold your attention because of their beauty.

I am very pleased to announce that one of my images, “Delayed Respite” will be part of the exhibit this year. It was an honor to have Keith Carter view my work, but much more of an honor that he chose one of my pieces. If you are in Greenville on January 13th, there will be a Juror’s talk given by Keith Carter at 5pm in Speight Auditorium (in the art building). I have heard him speak before, so I’m sure you will enjoyed it. There will be a gala reception following the Carter’s talk. I hope you can come out and enjoy some wonderful image based media! Here is the piece that was selected for the show:

This is one of my favorites…so very happy to have one of the prints. And ecstatic that it was chosen to be in the exhibit!
